And I discovered that [of all irrational sins none has been so destructive in beguiling one away from God as immoral women. For more bitter than death is the woman whose heart is [composed of] snares and nets, and whose hands are chains.
Whoever pleases God will escape from her, but the sinner will be taken captive by her [evil].
My fellow brothers, if either of you desires a righteous life, a rightness before the Lord, if any of you wants to keep his testimony, about the saving and sustaining power of Christ, bind wisdom upon your fingers, write the word of the Lord upon the table of your heart.
Say to skillful and godly wisdom, “You are my sister,” and regard understanding and intelligent insight as your intimate friends.
Man of valor, if you desire a good name, a worthy name, a commendable testament, let alone keeping your marriage, flee the strange woman.
The Bible doesn’t tell you to walk away, the Bible tells you to run! To flee! To hasten your feet away from her.
Do not entertain her, do not give her a listening ear, do not give her room for negotiation, do not listen to her, run!
For she has cast down many [mortally] wounded; Indeed, all who were killed by her were strong.
Her house is the way to Sheol, Descending to the chambers of death.
She’s not a joke. She’s not a facade. She’s not an imaginary being. She’s as real as the morning sunrise. As real as the dark night.
Flee from her.
If you are really keen on keeping your marriage pure, honoring your marital bed, flee the strange woman. Her way(s) descend to only one destination. Death. The Bible says that her end is as bitter as wormwood and as sharp as a double-edged sword.
She kills, she steals, she destroys, she annihilates, she roots out!
Run from the strange woman!
It’s puzzling, how Solomon was inspired to use the word ‘strange’ to describe this woman.
For he too fell victim to the strange women. They turned his heart towards other gods. They caused him to abandon the covenant of the Lord God – the God of his father David.
Solomon the wisest man who was and will ever be, called her a strange woman.
Why does the word of the Lord call her strange? What is so strange about a strange woman?
The bible calls her so because her ways are really unorthodox, unusual and unknown to a man who lacks spiritual insight.
A man stagnated in his walk of faith, a man not anchored in Christ, a man with a wavering faith, tossed to and fro by the pressures of life, will be easily swayed and beguiled by her wiles.
So that she does not think [seriously] about the path of life; Her ways are aimless and unstable; you cannot know where her path leads.
As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
For on account of a one is reduced to a piece of bread [to be eaten up], And the immoral woman hunts [with a hook] the precious life [of a man].
She’s unstable in everything.
Her ways are not clearly defined nor seen, unless the Lord opens up your heart to understanding – having a Godly discernment for she is a woman without discretion.
Like a pig with a golden ring on its snout, whatever you invest in her, be it yourself, your time, assets, money will all be a waste. Yes, a strange woman will kill you brother! She will take your life unapologetically.
A strange woman doesn’t reveal her goal(s) forthrightly. Like a lioness hunting for prey, she too hunts for a man who is not grounded enough. A man who has let his guards down.
She’s very intentional, purposeful, deliberate and calculated in her acts.
A man with no understanding will fall for her false charm.
She’s diligent at seeking out a man who is obstinate. An unyielding heart is her specialty.
She will quickly take down man with an impotence in bearing fruits of the Holy Spirit. She is intent and determined to take as much from a man with no character.
She appears as a bride, but behind the mask is a woman with a wicked, apathetic and heartless soul. Her beauty is purely cosmetic. Her parched spirit drives her to take and never to give.
She’s a bottomless dark pit. [Proverbs 22:14]
She will seek you out diligently and relentlessly until she ensnares you.
The Bible says in Proverbs 7:15
Diligently I sought your face and I have found you…
Her actions are premeditated. She weighs in the opportunities presented to her. She’s there to gain, to take, to syphon, to amass, to pull and never to give.
Against all odds, she will win over a man who is double-minded. The Bible says that a man with such a mind is unstable in all in his ways and this is not just a good opportunity for a strange woman, but a perfect breeding ground for her to thrive.
So you think you are born again enough not to heed to correction? Think twice.
You cannot boast about anything! Your accolades, achievements, gains, wealth cannot save you from her tentacles, only Christ can!
She has slain many and buried more when they were still alive.
She has put down mighty men. She has smitten many with their majestic grandeur.
She drowns a man’s splendor.
She gorges out a man’s foresight.
She suffocates his vision to death.
She disjoints and crushes his God given strength to a pulp.
She chokes a man’s mission to death.
She steals his creativity
She aborts his masculinity.
Mr. Do not entertain her, run!
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
Let’s talk about the characteristics of men who are lured.
The Bible says that she’s put down many MIGHTY men.
Mighty is the word. Men who are considered the best. The fearsome, the powerful, the great, superior, accomplished, the successful, the majestic, exceptional men. The strange woman is no doubt the agent of death and these are the men that are easily ensnared by her.
1. The foolish man.
It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools refuse to turn from evil to attain them.
A foolish man is her number one victim. He is one that doesn’t regard wisdom. A man who thinks he’s got it all figured out, after all he’s a man. This is a man who doesn’t seek wise counsel.
A man who hates to follow instructions, instructions meant for his good.
The Bible talks about Nabal who was a foolish man. He didn’t regard the authority of David, and it almost cost Abigail her household. Her wisdom averted the inevitable calamity that almost befell her due to his foolishness.
Just like Nabal, a foolish man is really self-absorbed.
He’s a type of man who says, “I don’t need counselling”, “I have got it all figured out”, “Counselling makes me look weak”, on and on, the foolish man sinks deeper into his own oblivion.
His foolishness makes him incautious and injudicious. He never sees past her make-up and superficial looks!
Look, I have never seen any wise person who failed to ask. Truthfully speaking, how does one gain knowledge, understanding and wisdom without asking?
Nothing speaks louder about being masculine, nothing is as audacious as a man who constantly seeks to be better, by seeking Godly wisdom!
A foolish man is a man who thinks he’s too saved to fall. Too saved to walk with another man whom he will be accountable to. This man thinks that he is self-sustaining. Do not be fooled. The Bible says that God is no respecter of persons and so is the enemy.
He will kill, steal and destroy anyone who leans on their own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5 says
Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
Do not rely on your own understanding. No one is entirely free from temptations, but our God always has a way out. We cannot be tempted beyond what we can bear. [1st Corinthians 10:13]
Do not be a foolish man who relies heavily upon himself.
Pastors have fallen into sin praying for a “sister in need.”
Brothers in Christ have fallen into sin, while on “intercessory prayers.”
Brothers in the praise and worship have fallen into sin, “over evening practice.”
Youth leaders have fallen in to sin during, “godly sleepovers.”
Deacons and have fallen into sin as they were “counselling sisters on spiritual warfare!” Indeed, warfare in the cover of darkness!
Do not be a fool.
2. The arrogant man
But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.
The arrogant man is her next victim. This is a man who knows what he has to do, man who has heard the word of the Lord, has heard enough counsel, corrected, guided through, but rejects the counsel.
Why? He’s too opinionated and haughty. He has an attitude of primacy and dominance. He is self-entitled, narcissistic and believes that he is always right!
He carries around an air of superiority, “What are you telling me?” kind of look. His body language speaks boldly saying “I have got it all covered!” He’s a man who believes in his own abilities just like the foolish man.
This is a man who is too full of himself and overbearing. With those characteristics, one might think he is too far-fetched for a strange woman, yet those characteristics are her perfect nesting place.
Samson had a level of arrogance and Delilah ensnared him.
Arrogance is not a strength; it is a weakness. The devil is too cunning. A better schemer than all of us. Men of valor can only defeat him by the power of the blood of Jesus and by the word of their testimonies!
You have to tell her, “No!”
You have to tell her that you have no time for her chats! You have to put clear, firm and concise boundaries with her! Otherwise, her smooth talk will soon slide you into her trap!
Not forgetting to heed to godly counsel!
Proverbs 1:8 says,
My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not reject the teaching of your mother.
If you will turn and pay attention to my rebuke, Behold, I [Wisdom] will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. They would not accept my counsel, and they spurned all my rebuke.
