MY STRUGGLE WITH PORN – PART 3

1 Corinthians 10:13;

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

I have decided to start with a verse from the Holy Bible because of this; I have come to know that the Lord begins where our efforts and strength fail.
Your struggle becomes a breakthrough when you let a stronger man come to your rescue.
The strong man is Jesus Christ, the son of the living God.

It’s common for a man to think that he can make it through all by himself. Our self-confidence is a strength as well as a weakness. It requires wisdom to discern when use it for our good and when we must not trust it. Many are those times we tell ourselves that we can handle situations but we end up messing things up, leaving the situation worse.
One place that men have fallen is the arena of sexuality.

We think we can be able to control our sexual urges and desires all by ourselves. We fail miserably, more often times. Unless we subject our emotions, feelings, desires and thirsts to the obedience of Christ, we are bound to fail. It calls for total submission to Christ and to acknowledge Him in all our ways.
Confidence in the flesh is dangerously detrimental.

We must never trust our flesh in matters to do with sexuality. Paul cautioned us of this this kind of confidence in Philippians 3:3.

The body is weak and if your inner man is weaker, the body will lead you to a horrible pit. Funny enough, man has a Godly ability to resist all the temptations to which he is subject; and that consequently, if he yields, he is answerable for it.

When David went to fight Goliath in the Valley of Elah, David had a secret weapon. It was not the five smooth stones from the brook, not his training in the wild while shepherding his daddy’s sheep. He knew that Goliath was ginormous. There’s no way he could strike him down in close quarter combat. He didn’t stand a chance.

But he knew of a greater One than Goliath, the maker of the Universe. The one who put the constellations in place. The one who answers by fire. With confidence in Him, he told the giant; “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied……1 Samuel 17:45!

That’s all he needed. The battle was won with one swing of the of the sling!!
The rest was victory, plunder, another victory, another giant slayed, another victory, three mighty men, and finally a King!

That’s what happens when we cease to depend on self-effort.

Back to my story, the struggle with pornography addiction was real.
It didn’t give me space to breath.
I couldn’t move a muscle either.
It suffocated the very little life that I had.

But there was a way. Temptations come, but there’s always a way out.
Temptations come, but they are common to us. We only need to look around for way out that the Lord faithfully presents to us. We can overcome.

For me, I had to change my circle of friends.
I had to fight (by God’s enablement) the temptation of sneaking out from school on Fridays.

I had to talk to a spiritual authority higher than me in order to lead me through the prayer for deliverance.
I made a decision to start reading the Word, the Word that sanctifies us.
I developed the habit of thinking in the confines of what God requires of me.

Philippians 4:8:

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.)

It wasn’t an easy path, but I was determined.

If you are still stuck in the mud of porn, if you are caged by the evils of sexual perversion, there’s a way out. Only God can deliver you.
Make a decision today to live right.
You don’t have to be bound by the silent, unseen and secret addiction of porn. Evil has a way of separating men and cutting them off from their brothers. It has a way of making someone withhold secrets.

But You can be a man enough. A man of character.
A man after God’s own heart.
You can stand to be counted among those who go against the wave.
You can break free.

Delete those photos, leave those social groups, unsubscribe to those channels and unfriend people who post pornographic media – after all, you owe them no dime! Delete the videos on your phone, laptop, tabs, cloud and memory sticks. You don’t need them!
Carnal desires gain strength by indulgence!
They are corrupting the very fabric of your existence!

Get someone who can pray with you and walk you through the prayer for deliverance. Put on Jesus. Feed on His Word!
Be around men who will build your character and strengthen your values and virtues.
Don’t be a Lone Ranger.
Be accountable to someone.
Be the man that you were created to be!
