Action: Don’t be a Thorn Tree

Launchpad: Have you ever seen a Thorn Tree?
I am talking about the ones that are short with an umbrella canopy.
Always green, but can’t be used for anything.

Their shades are not habitable due to the branches that fall. No one can get under them for rest, shade or cover.
It’s funny how nothing grows around them, mostly found in arid and semi arid areas.

They look so beautiful from far but reality strikes with every step closer.
Hello brother, could you be a Thorn Tree?

Are you always glowing with class, elegance, presence and excellence but deep down you are one pricking ginormous cactus?
Are you the charisma type who courts praise from your social circles and beyond but are a pain in your family?

Are you that comedian who makes everyone else happy except your wife?
Are you that leader who is so loved by the company staff, won the employee of the year award, but is a beast at home?
Are you that church leader/pastor who brings the heavens down whenever you hold the mic but beat your wife every day religiously?

Are you this alpha male who commands respect among the men but when you go home everyone dashes to their bedroom in fear?
Are you that husband who praises his wife in public but scolds and abuses her in the bedroom?

Are you that man who will quickly receive your superior’s phone call but ignore ten missed calls from your wife?
Are you that man?
Green, leafy and looking good from far but only produces bitter herbs?
Ever smiling and happy, productive at work and loved by many but full of bitterness and rage which is displaced to his family in the evening?

If this is you, there’s a need to decide what you want in life.
You need to be grafted on the true vine, Jesus Christ, so that you can bear good fruits.

We all know the fruits of the sinful nature, Gal 5:19-21 explains.
But we also have the fruits of the Spirit of God when you read further.
God requires us to be a tree that is anchored in Him. Getting refreshed from His river of Life.

By so doing we shall never wither.
We shall bear fruits at the right time.
Our shades shall be an asylum of peace.
A resting place of our families.
A place of comfort and cover from the scorching sun.
We need to reconcile ourselves back to God.

We need to retrace our steps and get to know at what point we deviated from being men of valor.
We don’t have to carry a cold atmosphere around our homes.
God has called us to be loving.
Love is not cold.
Love nurtures and cherishes.
Love endures all.

We can be different for the sake of our families.

May that love you show to the world be multiplied in your homes.
May that warmth you give in the office come from your home.

May that enthusiasm you radiate come from your bedroom.

May the wife of your youth rejoice with you.
May your kids be thankful to have a dad like you.

Bible Verse:
Gal 5:19-23; Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, forgive me for being unloving and being selfish to my wife and children. I repent and make a turn around. I promise to love and be kind to them. I promise to make my home a place of happiness and laughter.
To the glory and honor of your name.
Amen.
