You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
I know the valleys are treacherous and draining. They can squeeze every ounce of blood and sweat off us. It’s not easy being in the valley. In a marriage setup, the emotional bond adds more salt to the injury. It never seems as though the end will come.
But Psalm 23:5 reminds us of yet another beautiful promise from our Good Shepherd. Christ reminds us that there is hope at the end of the dark valley. Valleys do not usually stretch end to end with no stop. And remember, Christ walks with you throughout your whole experience.
Even if the shadows of death lingers on, Christ still upholds you with His right righteous hand. There is a table that the Lord is preparing before your enemies. They can only look on and see what the Lord will do. Not only does He prepare a mega feast for us, to refresh us from the long hard journey, He does much more than that.
He anoints our heads afresh for His great glory. You see anointing is done for consecration purposes. Those who were anointed, were chosen people for a particular purpose. Some were anointed into Kindship; others were anointed as Priests.
Christ makes us dine and share in His glory. We are not doomed in the valley, for you and I are a chosen people. We are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, we can show others the goodness of God, for he called us out of the darkness into his wonderful light. – 1st Peter 2:9.
Do not think that your valleys have no end. They do! God has HIS GRACE set to take you through the valleys, and HIS GLORY set at the end of the road. He will anoint your head and give you abundance that your cup will overflow.
This doesn’t mean just material blessings, but a wholesome life. One that will set you on a high pedestal for His glory!
Whether our present path takes us through green pastures and by still waters or snakes its way through the darkness of the valley of deep shadow, we can be confident in this: Jesus has promised to welcome us into His kingdom on the last day, there to feast at His table, along with all His saints from many nations, vindicated in the presence of all our foes.
The Lord is indeed our Good Shepherd.
Your story is set for His glory and your testimony is set to give another person hope! It’s not in vain!
I thank you for your promise over my life at the end of all trials you allow in my life. I pray for the grace to overcome. I pray that you train my hands to war and my feet to scale the walls. I pray for grace to keep on this journey knowing that you have set for me a crown of glory at the end of the road.
Walk with me my Good Shepherd, be my guide and strength.
