Today she tells me, “Mommy I want MY Colgate on MY tooobash [read toothbrush]!”
Of course at first I wouldn’t let her.
I tried to explain to her with all manner of gentleness why I wouldn’t but well, she was so incessant and unrelenting.
She said, “I want MY tooooobash mommy!”
Finally I gave her a go ahead, albeit so passive about it, and this was the outcome.
The smudge was real. There was Colgate everywhere! It’s not that she doesn’t get what a pea size amount is. She wanted to just go a different way.
I guess mommy and daddy’s way seemed too cliche!
Isn’t it so much like us?
At God’s right hand there are pleasures evermore, but we want them and want them now!
Yet, He knows that you will mess up if he gives you a spouse now, or a place of influence or wealth. He knows that your heart isn’t ready yet!
It’s His attribute to be a good God, but goodness doesn’t mean that you ought to submit to every demand.
We definitely don’t bend to every demand our daughter puts out, but it doesn’t mean that we hate her.
Withholding some things from her definitely trains her in some virtues that her heart will have to face in the everyday life’s curves.
We say NO or YES or “wait a minute…why?”
God knows that we can mess up too! Even with clear parameters, our hearts are inclined to go our way!
We like the plans but hate seeking out the planner!
He is still a good God even with a delay. It doesn’t make Him any less than that monumental Friday He hang on the cross for our sins.
Trust His timings and HIS promises. HIS promises are YOURS, but at the right time, He will give them to you, knowing that your spirit is MATURE enough to receive from HIM without making a mess!
