WHY GRANDPA AND GRANDMA NEVER DIVORCED Part 3

3. They heeded to sound advice!

Proverbs 24:3-4 says that “Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

It’s funny how this verse starts with wisdom, then understanding and finally knowledge bearing in mind that understanding is a byproduct of knowledge, and wisdom is the proper application of that which has been rightly understood.

But again, the Word teaches us that wisdom is supreme. It is the principal thing (Proverbs 4:7). Wisdom is the ability to discern or judge what is true and right. It is the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience and understanding and common sense.

Knowledge is all about acquisition of information.

Understanding is the ability to comprehend the knowledge you have acquired.
So inasmuch as wisdom is the principal thing, the precursor to it is understanding and knowledge.

When my grandpa was a young man, he had his ears inclined to his father. He learnt how to treat his future wife why by observing how daddy treated mommy. Their lives were an open book for him to read. He gathered knowledge through the traditions and customs that they frequently practiced.

The beauty of every gathering was the perpetual presence of the elders who would selflessly pour out wisdom gathered over the years. The young men and women would listen, get inspired, enlightened and entertained at the same time.
When time to settle down came, they had enough knowledge and understanding about the family and the role it plays in the society.

They were prepared.

Preparation for marriage does not require a ‘test drive’ or a ‘come we try’! It’s a dangerous practice!

Young lady you don’t have to go and wash his dishes, clothes and cook for him to prove that you can make a good wife. That’s a dumb man. If he knew the value of a wife, he couldn’t have subjected you to such.

Young man, you don’t have to prove your love for her by paying for her upkeep when she’s not yet your wife. You are wasting your toil. You got it all wrong.

Prove yourself through your character, consistency and steadfastness.
Know why you want to settle, understand how a family works. Understand God’s idea for marriage and when you are ready to apply this, only then you will be the right person for marriage.

Focus on being the right person rather than looking for the right person. The right person will find you. The deep calls unto the deep.

Get all the positive and beneficial information you can from around you.

Read.

Look up to people who have worked out their marriages and are still loving it.
Listen to godly counsel.

Shun the negative innuendos being propagated by those who gave up on marriage.

Ask God for guidance.
Be the right person for marriage and family.
