DAY 18: PRAY FOR HIM
When I began praying for my husband, I admit that I had it all wrong. Of course there were issues I felt that needed to change in my marriage, but my approach towards praying for him was wrong.
I went before the Lord full of complaints about him, but couldn’t see that prayer was and is a double edged sword.
Prayer was not just for my marriage, it was also for me. So much for me that when I surrendered to the Lord’s realignment, my heart changed.
Fellow wife, prayer is not a means of gaining control over your husband. It is a means of relinquishing the control you have over our husband – in whichever means you might have been using– [manipulating, withdrawing, silent control, bickering etc.] – and asking God to shape him into the man GOD, HE wants him to be.
If your husband is shaped by God, most definitely he will be a perfect fit for you.
Secondly, prayer changes our perspective as wives, even if circumstances in our marriages and our homes might delay to change or not change.
Sometime we go to God with a ransom bid – as if prayer should instantaneously work “or else”. Of course God is not man, He can turn your husband around in the blink of an eye, but sometimes, most times, He doesn’t.
He works with His pace. His pace cuts both sides. Prayer changes you too as you give the control keys to God.
God shapes and molds, your part as a wife, is to pray and intercede for your husband.
James 4:3 warns us against praying with wrong motives at heart. We need check the reasons as to why we go before the Lord in prayer, more so for our husbands.
What motivates you? Are you motivated by the relationship you desire for him to have with Christ, or do you want him to be good husband to show yourself off?
Yes, we desire stupendous marriages and godly husbands, but your inclination and mine, should first be, towards his relationship with Christ. The rest are just pecks that come with having his heart in the right place – in Christ!
Thirdly, Prayer is not for purposes of getting your husband to do what you want him to do when you want him to do it. It’s not a means to arm twist God and convince Him to do your bidding. God has your best interest at heart and invites you to be partaker in molding your husband to be His masterpiece.
Your role is not to manipulate, nag, control, bicker or cajole your husband, but to love him and serve him as unto the Lord. As you pray, God will align your desires, longings, wishes, and thinking with His will, to get your husband on the perfect track.
Prayer, is the only perfect channel that God uses to change you and to change him.
Prayer is our best tool of war, against forces of darkness against our marriages. We fight on our knees fellow wives.
We have to refrain ourselves from fighting our husbands with our mouths. We can do better. Prayer has changed a lot in my marriage, and still continues to.
Pray for your husband, it’s not cliche, it works!
VERSE OF THE DAY: 1 John 5:14 –This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
D.I.Y: Write a prayer down that pours your heart out to Christ concerning your husband and send it to him. Remember, it’s a prayer, not a list of demands.
Go point: Be open to Christ, He understands.
I am at your feet Jesus, knowing that you hear my prayer and supplication. I know many times I have come to you selfishly, asking you to change so many things in my husband, yet I know I need that same saving Grace. Forgive me Lord.
Today, I release my husband to you. I know that no human power can change Him from within save for you Lord. I give him to you. I surrender him to you. Use him, mold him, chisel out every rough edge of sin.
Use him Lord for your service. I know when you mold him, he will be perfect for me. I give up every control, manipulation and nagging.
I ask YOU Holy spirit to penetrate every facet of his life. Lord he needs you more than he needs me. So Lord, help me not make him an idol but serve him as unto you Lord. Together, help us accomplish your will and purpose for us in this world, for your glory!
In Jesus name I pray.
