In Marriage Matters

THE MARRIAGE BED_INTRODUCTION

It’s way into the night as I jot this down. Am honestly excited to begin this series. Totally crazy how God can stir up something unbelievably far-fetched to one.

Am up. Not because am nursing our little one, though in a few minutes, his voice will beckon again. Such, are the sweet providences of parenting. Well, am up waiting for my husband.
I can already see that look! A-ha! Am waiting on. . .

He’s waited for me countless times. I can’t keep tabs on the number of occasions I have found his feet uncovered, butt up, to circumvent that “lethargic feeling” that comes from snuggling up a warm duvet in the middle of the night.

Couple that with the physical exhaustion. You will definitely need to put your butt high up, to keep the sleep at bay, waiting for your spouse. No pun intended!

He’s handling our daughter tonight. Telling her unending stories of the Bible, yet her sleep seems to have strolled off somewhere in wonderland….so, I will keep waiting. Counting every tick and rock, wandering away into my thoughts, trying to keep my eyes unglued and still starry.

Am hopeful that he will still find them starry however bloodshot they may be. It’s understandable. With the little ones, sleep can be quite a rare guest.
See, one child changes the lane, two, well, they change the whole marriage landscape.

Their never ending demands can stifle everything down, completely annihilating what is termed as spontanity in marriage, and you two can be left trudging around, barely breathing, just living through the roles, checking off the list, trying to keep up, and falling into bed each night exhausted, covered in sweat.

Take a deep breathe. I understand you fully. We are living it. Look at us now… I with the little one, while my husband is silently praying for the Lord to send a gushing wind of sleep to our girl.

I can’t help feel nostalgic about the days when we would spend our nights in the living room. I have no regrets because we thrived then. . . and we are very intentional on thriving even more now.
We asked the Lord to give us grace to still fan our fire even through the season of parenting.

No, we don’t want the smoldering embers in our marriage bed. We want the raging fire, blazing high and wild. The Lord has been gracious to give us WAYS out, and it’s tenaciously oriented to sacrifice.

God’s ways tickle, if not jaw dropping.
Like how He told Naman to wash off in the filthy waters of Jordan River seven times, or how He turned water into perfect wine! And wait, using spit and mud to heal the blind man, or calling out the rotting corpse of Lazarus out of the tomb.

Now that same God is interested in making your marriage bed bounteous. The epic moments of your life. Marked, sealed, bloomed. Is it hedonistic, not really. For God is the God of pleasure.

The Bible says in Psalm 16:11, that at His right hand, there are pleasures evermore.

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

It’s not just His intent for us to make it to heaven, but to live a prolific life here on earth.

You have to bloom in everyway, and what better place to have that bountiful harvest other than your home? Better yet, in your chambers, on your marriage bed?

God isn’t prudish about marital sexual relations. He created pleasure, for us, but the ancient foe has managed to twist and churn it for his own vile work.

No wonder we are always eager to get to the marriage bed when single, only to be disillusioned by the expectations SEX demands in a marriage.

My guess is as good as yours. Our Adamic nature, the flesh relishes in sin. That sin of self gratification, is what a marriage bed addresses.

The marriage bed is not just a bed, but a covenantal place. An altar. It should have it’s sanctity preserved, and not just preserved, fought for.

We are reclaiming our Godly space back.
Our marriage beds will be on fire! Physically and Spiritually!

Wonderful piece. As you’ve declared in the last sentencemail (about your marriage bed), so shall it be your portion in Jesus name!
