DEAR PARENT, COURAGE.

God said to Joshua(not once but three times) as he assumed leadership of the Israelites, “Be strong and courageous” (Josh. 1:6, 9, 18).

As I always say, I believe that that our lack of courage today is partially a result of our having fewconvictions.

As a result, we parent children that do not have convictions too. It’s not godly to let your child “do as they feel like.” You have a responsibility to mold their future. It’s not always glittery.

We have a 4 year old who watches us and does whatever we do. She duplicates it 100 percent. She asks hard questions. She makes us review our ways and actions everyday.

Courage does not follow rutted pathways. If we want to win a popularity contest in our families, churches, and ministries, we need only to follow the crowd down the road most traveled—the avenue of compromise.

But if we want to proclaim the truth of God’s Book, we will have to take the narrow path, where traffic is light.

Sometimes the courage required is not so much that of proclaiming God’s Word in public but of living it out at home.

It might be as basic as a husband seeking to pray regularly with his wife, establishing a family altar, praying before sleeping or teaching your child how to react when disappointed – and not sparing the rod.

Parents, do not neglect your God given mantle. You cannot pass that rod to someone else.

You ought to be intentional and remember that you are above all, parenting with Christ.
Let His Word be the guiding truth. Be strong and steadfast.
