Psalms 1:1-2

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,  but whose delight is in the law of the Lord , and who meditates on his law day and night.

The Word declares that fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God, is the man refuses evil advice, won’t follow sinners or join in sneering or ridiculing God. Instead, they find happiness in the teaching of the Lord, and, they think about it day and night.

This is what I simply term as a godly company.

It’s said that you are a sum total of your friends, and bad company corrupts good character_ 1st Corinthians 15:33. How true.
Two cannot walk together unless they are in agreement_Amos 3:3.

So a man’s circle is one that he’s chosen. For some, perhaps not carefully but comfortably.

Comfortably in sense that it stirs him more towards fulfilling the desires and passions of the flesh than challenge him towards an uncomfortable change or direction.

Walking in the way of the wicked is not a call to allegiance. Standing in the way of sinners is not a call to allegiance. Sitting in the seat of scoffers is not a call to allegiance.
It’s a matter of a personal decision, a poor decision at that, fueled by what one has beheld, heard or lingered around for a long time. A very long time at that one gets delighted in them.

And so you walk in their path and stand and sit in their counsel.

No wonder we ought to pray for our husbands to make a covenant with their eyes like Job_Job 31:1. No wonder we ought to pray for our husbands to  take heed what they hear_Luke 8:18. No wonder we ought to pray for our husbands to listen closely to, wisdom and good sense _Proverbs 5:1.

There’s a cure to the malady of keeping a wrong company. It’s in delighting in the law of the Lord and meditating on it.

Delight is a heart’s posture. A response to what the Lord says in His word.
Meditation then comes after being delighted in the Word that one cannot keep it away for a minute. It’s too long a time.

The thing is, for our husbands to keep a godly company, they ought to be delighted more in the pleasure of God’s Word than the pleasures of the world.

Their hearts posture should be one that rejoices in honouring the Lord above men, above his company and above his friends
It is a fight that is won by delight, and grows through meditating on God’s instructions day and night.

We need to pray that they will find ungodly company too impoverished with wisdom and the insight that comes with the fear of the Lord_Proverbs 9:10.

We need to pray that they will have godly connections in their friendships, business partners and colleagues.

That their connections will be those of value addition, edification and challenging them to pattern their masculinity in Christ.

That they will keep a company of men who have vision, direction and clarity of purpose in their life, driven by the fuel of the Holy Spirit, drenched by the streams of living waters, filled by the bread of life.

Heavenly Father through your Son Jesus Christ, I thank you for you are my God.
You have stood strong through time. unchanging, uncluttered, undaunted, is you Jesus.

Today I commit my husband’s friendships into your hands. You have told us to delight in you and meditate on your Word. I pray that he will not stand in the way of sinners, walk in the counsel of the ungodly nor sit down with scoffers.

I pray that his heart will be inclined to men who carry the same vision he does. Men who know their mantle. Men who will challenge him to be a better version of himself with each passing day.

I cut him off from all connections of the devil. I refuse all schemes made against him. I bring down all ungodly altars. I uproot all demonic seeds that could have been planted through wrong connections.
This day I declare that he will be known as a man who delights in you.

Who takes your precepts with all the seriousness it needs. Whose heart will respond in your delight. Who meditates day and night in your Word, drawing nigh to you in humble adoration filled with a childlike anticipation, to call you Abba Father.

Give him godly connections. Godly men who are being molded by you and purposefully and progressively seeking after your heart Jesus.

In Jesus name I pray amen
