Ephesians 5:22
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

A knock at 1am on the door at night would certainly wake me up, but not get me out of the bed. Most certainly, my husband would. It makes me feel protected? And who wouldn’t?

I have never met a woman who is sorry for not jumping out of the bed the first one, even if trained and armed with apt defense skills. It’s innate. A husband must protect his wife.

Such an example is shown by Christ who gave Himself up for us, His bride, the Church, to protect us from devil’s accusations, assault on our lives and the blood he bays.

The devil prowls, looking for someone to devour, and he would have, were it not for the lord’s loving kindness and mercies. Lamentations 3:22-23.

If Christ protects us, then husbands ought follow Him, by being protective physically and spiritually.

I feel sad when I see a woman being assaulted, even bullied, while the husband sips his tea at a corner. That’s not the kind of headship that glorifies the Lord. It’s cowardly, it’s sadistic, it’s chicken-hearted and spineless.

A husband should protect his wife physically from any perceived harm. It should should be almost like a knee jerk reaction, but well, more purposeful. He should be ready to protect his wife at all cost.

He should protect her heart. He should protect her mind. He should protect her sanity. He should protect her emotions. He should protect her body. He should protect her strength.

Secondly, he should protect her spiritually. It’s important for a husband to take the first role in enforcing the family ALTAR. He’s not solely responsible, but it’s his primary responsibility.

He needs to be submitted to the covering that will provide his ultimate mantle as a husband, hence, a spiritual covering.

He needs to pray for his wife, fervently. He needs to set the tempo of the spiritual disciplines at home. He needs to train up his children in the ways of the Lord. He should be ready to answer to God when He calls, as He did to Adam!

He should be a valiant warrior, armed with the armor of God that he will be able to stand against the wiles, schemes, attacks and the terror the enemy sends against his family.

He should protect his children against that which “appears to be good”, yet it’s not, by training them to filter out what they see.

He should protect his children’s ears, by training them to listen to what edifies, not what defiles.

He should train their children to judge their manner of dressing too, and in modesty, for you will be addressed the way you portray yourself.
Lest we go chanting through the worldly wisdom, “My dress, my choice”, the word of God reminds us that even a prostitute has the way she dresses, “And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.”_Proverbs 7:10

We ought to pray that they will take on this responsibility seriously, yet joyfully, knowing that they are gifted to be able to steward their families.

We ought to pray that they will be mighty men of valor, courageous at heart, and adoned with the spirit of the Lord.

Heavenly Father in Jesus name, I thank you for your grace this day. Your word says that you have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind.

I pray that my husband’s heart will courageous seek after you. Fill him with the courage to be protective. I pray that he will shield us from attacks.

I pray that he will shield us spiritually too.
Help him be a mighty man of valor. Full of your spirit, ready to tackle the wiles of the devil. Lord be glorified in his life.May he not grow weary.

Renew him all for your glory.

In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
