There is a reason why the Word, in Genesis 2:23, calls you and I the ‘bone of our husbands bones and flesh of their flesh’.

You are your husband’s rib.

A rib comes from a rib cage which protects vital parts of the body, the most important one, being the heart.

Can you believe God in His wondrous infinite wisdom made you enough to hedge your husband’s heart?

The world is full of depravity and the devil, more than anything else seeks out the heart of your husband to destroy him. He knows how powerful the heart of a commited husband is and given a chance, he will not spare it.

Proverbs 24:3 says that by wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;

We need wisdom to hedge our husbands’ hearts, otherwise we will be giving the enemy a through pass to them.

There are innumerable things that call attention to our husbands deficit, and in that, we might fail to hedge their hearts the way God wants us to.

There are enough forces that draw us out from within and from without.

Words like, “You always” and “You never!”

Do you get yourself using them? Saying, “You always leave dirty stuff around”, “You always come late”, “You always leave the toothpaste open”, “You never do what I ask”, “You never keep time”, “You never keep your promises” …The list is endless, right?

I know that I am too a victim. We fail to see what they have done and point out every area that seems neglected and “not so well taken care of.”

While I understand, there could be frustrations on your part, but without extending a full measure of grace, making sure that it penetrates every pore of every moment, every comment, every thought, every action, every step, even the best of the marriages begin to hemorrhage towards death.

Grace, hedges his heart off people and things which threaten to tear him off and down from his family.

You have a choice, to outpour your frustration further on him, or hedge his heart by extending a word of grace.

Remember that in marriage, you hold no scoreboard – it doesn’t matter how many times you will clean up after him – you are doing it as unto the LORD.

Secondly, no marriage is devoid of temptation. We are tempted on every side. These are forces from without that threaten to severe our vows.

The biggest temptation towards marriage, is infidelity.

While I do not excuse infidelity and flirting in marriage, as wives, we have to play our part too.

The bible says that we shouldn’t be ignorant of the devil’s schemes- 2nd Corinthians 2:11. It is therefore in your purview too Mrs., to be watchful over every FORM of evil. 1st Thessalonians 5:22. Evil is deceitful.

Am not suggesting that you should go snoop around your husband. But, ask the Lord to give you wisdom on how to talk to your husband about some close associations that you feel are not appropriate.

You don’t need to rant out – you need the wisdom to approach him. Tell him that a, b, c is not making you comfortable and you feel that he could approach it in a, b, c manner.

Unfortunately, most of us go all guns blazing! Right? ..and do hope that things will change, probably he will be apologetic.
Well, from my observation, and experience, nothing solid comes from a confrontation.

Hedging his heart doesn’t mean that you should excuse his unbecoming behavior. It doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t speak up, it doesn’t muzzle you in your marriage.

Love, rejoices in the truth, but in speaking of the truth, there’s an element of guarding our tongues and speaking with faithful instructions therein.

Hedging his heart means that you harness more of your power to build and protect him rather than to destroy him.

It means that you will not only be watchful over your home affairs, but more watchful over his heart’s posture. You will be discerned enough to know when he’s stepping off his God given mantle, and encourage him back to Christ.

It means that you will be interested more on his relationship with the Lord, and his progress, because of his crucial assignment as a husband in your marriage.

Hedge your husbands heart! God knows that you can do it!

VERSE OF THE DAY: Proverbs 31:26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

D.I.Y: Write down card list of wonderful things your husband has done for you, and place it his bag, lunch box, anywhere he might find it easily.

Go point: Be grateful, from the obvious things, to the greatest of them all.

Lord Jesus,

I thank you for this day Lord. I thank you for making me a rib to my husband. Thank you for being the bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. Lord this day, I ask for grace to protect my husband’s heart from demonic influences and loopholes.

I know that you have given me divine enablement to build my house with my own two hands. You the Lord who trains our hands to battle and our arms to bend the bow, train me Lord. Help me hedge my husband’s heart through your wisdom and knowledge.

Teach me of ways to speak with wisdom towards him and faithfully give my part without being arrogant. You are faithful to keep your word, sustain us in your faithfulness.

In Jesus name I pray.
