Yesterday my husband and I got to have a very interesting discussion and it went like this…are you married or are you a wife?
Then I wondered why the Bible in PROVERBS 31,had to call her a wife and not use the word married to refer to her.
Let me make it simpler. After the wedding, you are considered married.
Your title changes to Mrs. So and so because you are married, and you add a little bling on your finger as a symbol of your eternal love to your husband.
Then the marriage begins and that’s where the married are separated from wives.
Being married doesn’t automatically mean that you will submit to your husband.
Being married does’t automatically mean you will be an encourager to your husband.
Being married does’t automatically mean you will approve of him or anything he pulls on you.
Being married does’t automatically mean you will love him sitting watching tv as you run around in the house!
Being married does’t automatically mean you will like waking up early in the morning and make him his breakfast before he leaves for work!
It takes a total change of the HEART!
You get to do the “marriage”, after you wed!
Love is put on the anvil. Your title is put on the anvil.
My question is, are you married or are you a wife?
Proverbs 31 woman isn’t any different from us.
She was once single and found her identity in the Lord, got married and the Lord whom she found her identity in gave her the everyday grace to be the wife we all ought to be.
They may seem perfect, but the only thing that makes them look so perfect is God.
No human being is.
The Bible says in Philippians 2:13 New International Version (NIV)
For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. In other versions it says, to WILL and TO DO that which is HIS PLEASURE.
The only perfection in her is the Lord who HELPS HER TO BE A GOOD WIFE!
It’s the Lord who will help us as women to just not be “married”, but be wives.
A wife knows that submission is not a weakness, because she does it as unto the Lord.
She Loves the husband and serves him as unto the Lord, not as unto man.
Unfortunately that’s where we go wrong as women. No wonder you find articles against marriage. It’s like it’s a plague!
Marriage is a God given covenant it cannot be classified which any humanly made standards. it is a covenant! Divine it is and should remain as so! People are so missing the point.
Being a husband and wife is the closest form of a relationship that we can all witness and see how Christ loved and still loves the church despite what we do.
We are missing the point ladies. Getting married doesn’t mean that automatically you become a wife.
Being a wife is a DECISION YOU MAKE WILLINGLY TO learn, ‘un-learn’ and re-learn, to be corrected, to grow, to be molded, and accept a rebuke.
You need to LET GOD work in YOU so that YOU CAN WILLINGLY DO what God requires you to do in your marriage FOR HIS PLEASURE.
It pleases the Lord to see functional marriages. It pleases the Lord to see a man love his wife and his wife willingly submit and respect her husband.
It pleases the Lord to be a woman who does the husband well all the days of her life. That you are given to your husband all the days of your life, “in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer”
We need to be wives! Not just married.
Let God mold us to be what he called us to be. Once married, your marriage is your first ministry. It really doesn’t matter what title you hold in the government.
Are you married or are you a wife?
Marriage requires a woman and a man, with all their imperfections. God uses it to bring Glory and Honor to the one thing he created; a divine covenant, a marriage made in heaven.
