That we will have the courage to fight for our marriages…PART 2
Then Judah said, “The strength of the laborers is failing, and there is so much rubbish that we are not able to build the wall.”
Marriage requires a lot work and sometimes even the most “perfect” of marriages can feel their strength failing. It’s not unusual and that doesn’t mean that the marriage is in trouble. It just means that we need to constantly go back to our source.
We need to ask the Holy spirit to constantly clear and haul out the rubbish of selfishness, self-centeredness, un-forgiveness, bitterness, nagging, complaining, rudeness, our past and anything else that would slow down the progress of our marriage.
It’s not easy but we have to do it anyway. If the wall had to be built, then the rubbish had to be cleared. When our strength begins to fail, then we should run back to the source of all our hope, our savior Jesus Christ.
And our adversaries said, “They will neither know nor see anything, till we come into their midst and kill them and cause the work to cease.”
I have been privileged to know some of the military terms courtesy of my husband. There is something called a dawn attack, where the enemy strikes when one least expects and are not fully on guard.
That is the same thing in our spiritual warfare. The devil is strategic and knows when to attack.
The Bible says in 1st Corinthians 10 :12 Therefore let anyone who thinks he stands [who feels sure that he has a steadfast mind and is standing firm], take heed lest he fall [into sin].
The bible also says that our adversary is a schemer. In 2nd Corinthians 2:11 so that we should not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.
He knows when we are weak, discouraged and tired. He knows when we are not on guard or are simply deflated by the cares of the world. He attacks in very strategic ways.
But we serve a ling God who thinks about our welfare, and is quick enough to warn us of an impending attack.
God informed Nehemiah OF THE ATTACK THAT WAS PLANNED BY SANBALLAT AND TOBIAH.
This made him prepare for the war.
God tells us in His word to be always alert and stand on guard for we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, but against powers, principalities and forces of darkness.
They brought out their spears, swords and bows and get ready to fight.
The Lord calls us to put on the full armor and get ready to fight.
He told them to fight for their brethren, their sons, their daughters, their wives, and their houses:
They worked with their swords girded around their waists and trowels on their other hand.
That is the same thing the Lord calls us to do. To pray, not get discouraged, and put on the full armor of God to fight for what is rightfully ours. To fight for our families against the attacks of the devil.
The Lord is calling us to be ready for war, be clothed with the righteousness imputed in us through the blood of Jesus Christ and demolish all stronghold against our marriages, against our families, against our children, against our jobs, against our businesses.
We need to be ready for war.
Put on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the sword of the spirit which is the word of God, the shield of faith, and the shoes in readiness to spread the gospel of peace.
Fight for your marriage!
We thank you for your word that comes to extol, build, teach and rebuke us that we may be found faithful before you.
Lord we know that there are enough forces of darkness that try to bring us down. We get selfish, we become proud, we tear each other down when we need to be encourage one another the most – Lord forgive us.
Help us to stand on guard, always watchful of the enemy and his tactics. May we be found righteous through your son Jesus Christ. Give us the strength to fight for what you have given us. May you train us Holy Spirit.
Thank you for your grace.
In Jesus name,
