GOD ORDERED LOVE -THROUGH THE STORY OF ISSAC AND REBECCA – PART 3
#LESSON 2: LET HIM GO BEFORE YOU- GUIDE YOU.
The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house, from the land of my family and my birth, who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give this land’—He will send His angel before you [to guide you], and you will take a wife from there for my son [and bring her here]. ‘
You see the thing about God is that He not only shapes our desires to conform to His WILL and purposes for our lives, but that He guides us gently, through the power of the Holy Spirit both to will and to work for His good pleasure – [Philippians 2:13].
Of course the pursuit of marriage will require us to put ourselves “out there”, but by means, it the Lord who goes before us to shape our desires for each other and carefully tends to the paths we should walk on. If only we let Him be our Shepherd.
Abraham’s faith in God made him know that it was the Lord who ideally goes before us in every step to avoid making rush or idolized decisions that would have us suffer undeniable consequences in the end.
He said. He will send His angel before you [to guide you].
Pause for a moment and ask yourself, do you ask the Lord to guide your path as you walk down this journey of singleness? When was the last time you asked the Lord to guide your path as you started of your day, that indeed if the Lord brings forth your spouse, you shall discern the Lord’s hand in it? When did you stop praying for your future spouse and instead “rushed into what you felt then.?”
When did you last ask the Lord to guide your paths?
So many don’t and hence give the enemy the foothold to quaintly paint our paths with doubt, shame, guilt, idolatry, pain, name it.
We have not trained our hearts to listen to the voice of the Lord nor discern His presence. Let’s be very clear, the Lord doesn’t short change us. He cannot guide you towards a certain direction yet make the other party face a different direction. God confirms his Word through a myriad of ways. His word, circumstantially and even through a community of believers.
He says in His Word in Psalm 23 that His rod and staff they comfort me[US]. In other words, we should be ready to be corrected and chastened by the Lord in our pursuit of marriage. We should know that his delay isn’t denial and that He would want us to “lay down in green pastures” for a while to refresh, rejuvenate and refocus our minds for the journey ahead.
His pasture moments are our receiving moments. Where we open our hearts, soul and spirit to receive from Him as we prepare to partake of what He has prepared on the table for us.
The season of singleness is a season of seeking clarity form God so that he will align our intimacy right.
He wants us to seek His kingdom first and all other things will be added to us. All includes marriage.
The greatest gain from marriage isn’t just a bling, but God. The God who aligns your intimacy right all for His glory. Marriage isn’t all about making us happy next to our believed, but it is one that displays Christ’s immense love to the undeserving bride[church].
Who wouldn’t want a marriage like that.
He wants you to slow down the pace and run to His feet. Say Lord, “guide me once again today.” No matter how uncelebrated it looks, or what the world preaches about “grabbing an opportunity”, God instead says, “rest it on me.”
He doesn’t just create an opportunity; He literally opens a flood gate.
His guidance sometimes, closes those doors we rushed into or are trying to rush in. When he does, our hearts need to learn to wait upon him. Waiting means that it worth it, so there is literally nothing more perfect, more glorious, than a table He prepares, than the road He takes you down on, than the spouse He brings to you.
Ask the Lord to go before you today. Ask Him to go before you tomorrow and the day after. Do not rush to seek after a spouse without Him for He is THE WAY to all – to your spouse.
