Headship is a God-given responsibility to a man, to serve the wife through leading by example. He is to protect the family and give himself as Christ did, sacrificially. His provision should not just centralize itself around acquiring wealth or providing material gain – but his provision should exceed that.
Headship is the God-given authority of a man to serve and nurture his family, leading them in the way of the Lord.
Headship does not take the place of Christ in a family. If whatever the husband does in the house isn’t Godly, then that is not headship.
Headship doesn’t stifle the wife, rather, it creates an environment where there is freedom for her to be creative and enjoy who God made her to be and molding her to be.
Headship depends on how right your heart is as a husband is to the Lord.
Headship requires you admit your need for help from your wife.
Headship is not being a tyrant in your home, but a man who gently leads and is not afraid of engaging the wife deeply.
Headship is not a right to command and control your family, but a unique responsibility to love like Christ.
Submission is a God-given responsibility to a woman, to serve the husband through affirming his leadership and giving him the support he needs to carry out his God-given role.
Submission is an inclination to follow your husband even when you are so sure that his decisions are not sound or he has poor judgment.
Submission is more than just following rules, but supporting your husband in a way that encourages his godliness.
Submission is not being a coward, or walking in a way that suggests “humbling yourself,”, it is in how you incline yourself to serve your husband.
Just like Headship, Submission is not tagged to a certain personality. It is all in the attitude of the heart.
Submission always has a goal and the goal is to draw the husband into a stronger more rooted commitment to God. A wise woman, one with a quiet spirit (P.S not a quiet woman), attracts her husband since he finds comfort in her.
Submissiveness doesn’t place the husband in the place of Christ in the family. It doesn’t worship the husband either or turn him into a god.
A Submissive woman is sensitive to her husband’s needs and longings and is excited at every opportunity to use her resources to serve him.
Submission makes a woman more discerning of her husband’s unspoken questions and will quicken herself to give the answers. Not by bluntly answering him, but by asserting his confidence and affirming his strengths first.
When headship and submission work in perfect harmony, then marriage will work the way God designed it to work from the word go.
