Phillipians 4:8 Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable…

Are your thoughts about your spouse HONORABLE?

Noah Webster’s Dictionary defines honor this way: “Respected; worthy of respect; regarded with esteem.”

The Word of the Lord carries even more weight when it calls us to honor our parents, and honor our marriages too.

In honoring your marriage, you cannot fail to honor your spouse?

Phillipians 4:8 calls us again to not only think of what is true, but honorable. Do you think these types of thoughts about your spouse? Do you look at your spouse and are over and over filled with awe and wonder about this person that God joined you to?

Have you been seeing them through your naked eye or are you seeing them through the eyes of the Holy Spirit? See, we deem ourselves perfect, it’s human to desire a perfect treatment from our spouses, yet our bar falls way below.

HONOUR in marriage, wears garments every day. Know that you didn’t marry for perfection, but progression. A progressive growth into becoming what God wants you to be. A lifetime of glory revealed.

So, allow each other that space to grow by understanding that you will inevitably hurt each other. You will both make mistakes, but that shouldn’t define your marriage nor dent it. Allow each other to learn through wrong turns, but don’t allow yourselves to wallow through them. Hold each other through those imperfections.

Why, because you honour and regard each other, far above your weaknesses.

Pray for each other, but rely on God to change your spouse’s heart and mind.

Honour gives God His rightful place in your spouse’s life. It doesn’t impose it’s will, but rests on God’s will to change them.

Honor speaks into their lives. It causes you to treat your spouse far better than they deserve, and in doing so, you speak destiny into them.

Honor covers each other’s faults and focuses on the strengths. The devil wants us to be overly attentive to our spouse’s worst qualities. But God wants us to think about the best qualities in our spouse.

Don’t be so quick to point out every failure, every miss, every under achievement and fail to praise each other for the tiniest, and most obvious things done.

Marriage thrives in an atmosphere of praise. It’s a critical discipline to create within your home.

Lest we think it’s cosmic, it’s a deliberate effort to think honourable thoughts, and bring every other contradictory thought under the subjective power of Jesus Christ.

2nd Corinthians 5:7 says that we walk by faith and not by sight. In this moment as you look at your spouse and think honorable thoughts about him or her, you are doing it by faith. As you continue to pursue, thinking honorable thoughts about them, God is faithful to bring your spouse to the place of honor in your heart.

Choose today to think honorable thoughts about your spouse and watch your view of this honor increase.
