MY JOURNEY OF MOTHERHOOD – NO SUPER MOMMY!!
When I became a mother, I wasn’t able to meet some simple expectations, and I fought endless emotional battles to win back the feeling of being capable and productive – sometimes I still do.
No matter how hard I worked, I couldn’t manage to measure up to either the world’s standards for moms or my own expectations.
See, the hardest part of becoming a mom isn’t the loss of sleep or crazy hormones, it’s the raging unchecked desires for our new lives. Somehow, our love for our little human beings can overtake our desire for God and our husbands.
Have you not seen women who totally forget about their marriages when kids show up?
It’s the grasping, endless pursuit of the just-unreachable goals for our babies, and the expectations we ought to reach for our babies.
You and me have no choice but to surrender this desire to “work all out for our little ones” lest it entangles us.
Then we must release that good desire to a gracious and wise God.
When we release our expectations for motherhood, we have the opportunity to receive God’s grace for the unexpected.
Yes, that grace to love your husband even with leaking boobs.
That grace to listen to your husband when your mind is too clogged to absorb anything.
That grace to serve him without grumbling and murmuring.
That grace to change the dirty diaper for the umpteenth time.
That grace to sooth your little one to sleep even when your knuckles are sore and pure white!
The grace for the unexpected.
Suddenly, we don’t have to strive to be a supermommy, because God’s endless superpower supplies all the energy we need for the unexpected challenges of motherhood.
