THE IDOL CALLED MARRIAGE- FINAL THOUGHTS…
Contrary to what most people think, marriage has not been overrated. It has never been overrated. It is highly regarded by Christ. See, If God puts out anything in His Word, then it means that He holds His Holy word to the end.
But what we should know is that a high view towards marriage, means an equally high view of singleness.
What we should strive against is making an idol out of marriage for the married, more so, those who imbibe the traditional view, and those who make an idol out of independence for those who regard the contemporary view of marriage.
Both are sacred seasons. Both are highly regarded regard by God and none is valid without the other.
However, this exalted view should only serve to remind us that marriage is just but pen-ultimate. It is a just a pseudo – trailer of the actual reality to come. You cannot do marriage without constantly pursuing Christ. Otherwise, if marriage becomes an idol, then a pathology will be created when put so much pressure on our spouses to be all that God should be.
That is the same pathology that will plague every – not yet married person – who idolizes marriage so much that they would miss the pitfalls and the red-flags, even consciously, only to have “their dream wedding.”
So, what if every single person would embrace the sufficiency of the Gospel to the fullest? What if the married person found their deepest rest in Christ other then laying the heavy weight on their spouses?
If every single person rested and rejoiced in their marriage to Christ, they will be able to handle their single life without devastating loneliness. In other words, Singles must realize that the very same plague of idolatry of marriage that distorts their lives will still distort their expectations in marriage.
Do not be fooled, your anchor, your foundation will determine the strength of your marriage. Nothing stands in the way of God, even marriage itself.
