I woke up to smell his coat for the umpteenth time in the twilight hours. I couldn’t help it….I was drowning in him….
The phone rang!
“Hello Mary, Can we take a walk?”
“Sure”, I quickly responded. What a serendipity!
He came for me from my Campus room and i turned into a pulp that I forgot to carry a jacket. My legs, wobbled and my heart raced fast. Of course, I appreared demure, but deep down, I was pirouetting.
I didn’t anticipate that our walk would be long, but it was. We talked, we laughed, I giggled at his funny comments, and laughed out loud at his jokes to a point of snorting out like a pig. Well how could I not. I was love-struck.
You call that embarrassing? Well noooo! He loved my snort! Lord! He actually laughed when I snorted. It was weird and fun to him. Now, this man who loved my snorting self was a keeper!
Away from my snorting laughs, the weather was slowly taking a toll on me. Funny how he noticed the goosebumps on my arms and he quickly gave me his coat to keep warm. He said, “as long as you are warm, my girl, am totally fine!” Those word struck me down like a thunderbolt! “Did he just say my girl?” my heart waxed hot.
That’s when I literally got intoxicated. I prayed hard to the Lord. The scent on that coat split my brain into two!
My heart was falling way hard for this man.
He was smelling like roses and dandelions plucked straight from the Garden of Eden, sprinkled with fresh water from the throne room. . . Good doesn’t sum up the aroma that tickled my nostrils.
I feel in love with his scent. Years down, i still love how he smells. I could snuggle him down anywhere!
I kept the coat for the night and honestly, everytime I woke up to pee I would pass by the wardrobe to simply smell it.
If you didn’t do that, praise the Lord!
Romantic love in itself, is an echo of God’s love for us. It simply points to the truest of all loves, the Love of the Father to the fallen world. Eros, is captivating! God did design us to allure each other with our scents.
Have you seen how animals use their scents to attract a potential mate during the mating season? Now, we aren’t animals, but we are wired to respond to the scents around us. A scent also plays a very important role in choosing a spouse.
Song of Solomon 1:12-14, While the king was at his table, My perfume (Solomon) sent forth [his] fragrance [surrounding me]. My beloved is to me like a pouch of myrrh Which lies all night between my breasts. My beloved is to me a cluster of henna flowers In the [fragrant] vineyards of Engedi.
Evidence has it that there were workshops at Engedi that used to make perfume from balsam. It has even been suggested that the perfume production at En Gedi was part of a royal estate.
Now it’s interesting to note the Balsam, the tree that used to make such perfume, owes its name to the biblical Balm of Gilead. It was such a rare perfume that those who had it were considered royalties.
then can you fail to act as royalties in your own marriage bed?
We refer to CHRIST as our Balm of Gilead, our Lord, because His fragrance cannot compare to another. You need not even see Him to change you, to feel Him. You only need to BELIEVE.
The helm of His garment unplugs the generations curse of infirmity, and He wears His scars head up, His name up, as a triumphant glory, a trophy of what He lay down for us. Once Christ changes your heart, your ooze a sweetness, an aroma and a strength that changes whatever comes across you. Your scent allures.
Our Father too enjoys our sacrifices and offerings and they rise to Him like a sweet aroma. Phillipians 4:18 says, I have all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts from Epaphroditus. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
Now, we are created in the image and likeness of our God. He enjoys a sweet fragrance, and we do too. Your scent speaks volumes without necessarily uttering any word.
Why would you then carry a stinking mouth to bed? The fetor of stinking feet? Armpits that could drive off cockroaches from your bed? Reeking sweaty hair that could suffocate one down?
It’s important to know that your scent will either repel or keep alluring your spouse. It’s a flavor to your marriage bed.
I understand that there are seasons in marriage, but seasons don’t tie your actions down, they inform them.
Get into the shower, and get that reek of sweaty armpits off. Change your clothes. Dab on a night fragrance. Run the laundry on your inner wears. Draw the curtains and give your bedroom some ample breath time. Clean up the sheets, change the pillows, unfurl the duvets.
Invest in an air freshener, possibly a perfume humidifier, scented candles, anything that will make your bedroom inviting and alluring.
The Lord desires our chambers to be as inviting to Him as it is to us.
Invite the Lord to your grand worship by changing the aroma around yourselves and where you two call your chambers.
This barefaced rejoicing in the delights of sexual love in marriage, is highly compounded by our scents.
