Today after church, my wife and I decided to drive back home, instead of our usual catch up at our favorite joint. We talked about the sermon and how the Word had made great impact on our lives.
The Word transforms and the more you make the Lord your friend, your intoxication and your everyday life, He becomes more real. Your faith grows stronger and firmer.
For the time we have gone to church together, we have noticed that many of the church members were women.
They hold their son’s daughter’s  hands, side by side, dressed up, briskly walking to church.
The men were very rare. We could almost count them.
Am not talking of a single man, am talking of a man with his whole family. Hand in hand.
Then my wife asked me, where are the husbands and the fathers? Why didn’t they come with their families? Do you want to tell me that all the weekend jobs are for men? Where are they?
I paused to ponder at these. I looked around. There were men all over.
Some sat beside the coffee shops, some gathered in a cluster of five to ten men, jesting around like small kids. Some were at the balconies of the local pubs a constant ogle at the women who pass by.
Others were just staring at anything, even at goats!
Don’t start crucifying me for being biased, of course there were others who were busy minding their own business and doing their “hustle”, of which I have great respect for. Whatever your hustle, hustle hard… respect to you!
My concern though is this, where is the man?
Where is the Provider?
Where is the Protector?
Where is the Vision Bearer?
Where is the Priest of the home?
Where is the Gentleman?
Where did the man go?
Could he be in his man cave? Still trying to figure himself out
Could he be out there catching up with old friend? But for how long? and do those friends add any value to him?
Could he be out there making the ends meet?
Or maybe he’s out there straying with strange woman he met the other day, no wonder the many broken families and marriages!
Or maybe he’s out there covering his tracks, for something wrong he did or he is doing.
Where did the man go?
This reminds me of the Biblical story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
Adam was given all the instructions by God pertaining to all that he had, and all that was around him.
He was the custodian of the instructions that God had gave him.
Then one day he decided to take a stroll.
Left the woman “unattended”, if I may use the word.
The serpent found the loophole. Eve was alone! Of course Adam had delivered the message to Eve, but where was he?
The serpent deceived the woman, not by ultimately refuting what the Lord said, but he managed to fill Eve with DOUBT!
He said to Eve “Did God really say that?”
Where was Adam? Why didn’t he stay with the wife, Eve? I am pretty sure that if he was there when the Serpent came, he probably could have stood firm for his family and the Truth, my assumption, but unfortunately it was not to be so.
Fast Forward to the modern world.
The man has become extremely busy. His life revolves around making money and more money and more money!
He does not have time for his wife. After I DO, NOTHING! He has no time to connect with his wife emotionally and spiritually! Probably physically when his testosterone are soaring high.
He has ZERO time for his children.
ZERO time to pray with his family.
ZERO time to play with his family.
If he happens by chance to take his family out, as the kids are playing, he will take out his smart tech gadget and deep himself into the social media network.
Again, the wife has two options, to sleep, or go play with the kids, because getting angry has gotten old you know!
The modern man has no time to catch up with his children. He comes home past 10 pm, while the kids are asleep and leaves home at 5 am!
His kids pick up bad habits in the estate and in school and he will never notice. He doesn’t look at their report cards, and he would rather give the kids money to pay the school fees!
ZERO follow up!
When the child is 18 yrs. and doing drugs, he wonders how this came to be.
He thinks his son is trying to be cool, only to find out that he is already an addict!
The daughter has found affection in the arms of a man who will take away her virginity, break her heart and leave her with eternal scars!
Did he ever notice? NO!
He has no time to share his faith with his family. He sleeps off on Saturday or Sunday when mam is trying to get the kids ready for church! He’s not the priest.
He does not lead them to the Way, the Truth and the Life.
At the end of the day, the family finds another way. False doctrines.
The wife believes in some other priest who seems to fill the gap of faith inside her heart.
Another man calls her beautiful instead of you! The man of the house!
She dresses up for another man!
She misses another man!
She joins weird cults! The cults that massage anointing oil on women’s body in the name of the Lord!
Where were you oh man of the house?
The family scatters, though they live in one house. There is no home.
This is where the rain began beating us.
When we, the men, decided to throw care to the wind.
When we refused to take on our Godly ordained responsibilities.
The man is the center of the family.HE IS SYMBOL OF AUTHORITY- Authority as structure, not as a source!..His leadership is of servitude.
THE Godly role of being the leader in his home is bestowed on him by God. When the head does not function well nothing does!
We cannot demand respect from our wives and children if we don’t t fit in our shoes well, and take our roles seriously.
You cannot demand submission from a wife you love not, or children whom you neglect. You cannot demand acquiesce, yet carry yourself with little or no self-worth!
Time has come for a man to return back to the master, the one who gave us the blueprints for our homes!
We need to be the men!
Men who are worthy of good wives!
Priests and providers of our homes!
To care for our children and to cherish our wives.
Where did the man go?

Dedicated to all men of valor!

The Lord, help us. Men we have to stand-up and be counted. The nation is ailing, generations are confused and lost because we have refused to Man-up.
I am ready, I must make my Manhood count!
